By using the listserv, you are accepting and agreeing to be bound by the terms and conditions below.
- Disclaimer/Prohibitions
- This listserv is a service provided by, and a privilege of membership in, MSO. Comments may be closed by the MSO.
- MSO accepts no responsibility for the opinions and information posted through the listerv by others. MSO disclaims all warranties, express or implied, with regard to information, materials, products, or services posted, discussed, or advertised through the MSO member listserv, whether by MSO or any third party, including, but not limited to, all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. In no event shall MSO be liable for any special, indirect, punitive, or consequential damages or any damages whatsoever resulting from loss of use, data, business opportunities, or profits, arising out of, or in connection with, the use of this MSO member listserv or the transmittal, receipt, sharing, purchase, sale, or use of any information, materials, products, or services posted, discussed, or advertised through the MSO member listserv. MSO disclaims all liability for any viruses, malware, spyware, or other destructive or disruptive software or code transmitted by any user or third party using the listservs, and users are prohibited from transmitting any such items. MSO is not responsible for any posting or comments by users of listserv.
- Users are prohibited from posting any defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal statements or materials.
- Users are prohibited from posting or marketing any information, materials, products, or services protected by a copyright, patent, trademark, service mark, or non-disclosure agreement, or otherwise constituting the intellectual property or trade secrets of any other party, without the permission of the party holding such protected rights (this includes, but is not limited to, all publications, book excerpts, journal articles, or images, including the electronic copies of the same). By posting or advertising information, materials, products, or services, the posting/advertising party warrants and represents that it owns all intellectual property rights with respect to such information, materials, products, or services or has received permission from the owner of such rights to post those items. - MSO will take reasonable steps to monitor the site for inappropriate postings, but does not, on its own, undertake editorial control of postings. - MSO reserves the right to terminate access to any user who does not abide by these requirements.
- Indemnity
In consideration for access to the information and materials provided through the listservs, the user agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold MSO harmless from any and all losses, damages, costs, and expenses (including, but not limited to, reasonable attorneys’ fees, litigation costs, and expert witness fees) arising, directly or indirectly, from the user’s violation of the terms and conditions above or any violation of applicable laws or regulations committed by user in connection with the use of this MSO member listserv. - Guidelines and Etiquette
- Stay Professional & Respectful
Treat all members with courtesy. Healthy discussion is encouraged; personal attacks, harassment, or inflammatory language is not.
- Keep it Relevant
Posts should relate to optometry, vision health, professional development, advocacy, or community matters. Off-topic messages may be removed at the moderators’ discretion. - Adhere to existing Antitrust Laws and Regulations.
This means that messages that encourage or facilitate an agreement about the following subjects are inappropriate: prices, discounts, or terms or conditions of sale; salaries; profits, profit margins, or cost data; market shares, sales territories, or markets; allocation of patients or territories; or selection, rejection, or termination of patient or suppliers. - No Promotions or Solicitations
This is a space for sharing knowledge, not selling products or services. Job postings, event announcements, or research participation invites should be relevant and approved, if necessary.
- Protect Privacy
Do not share patient information or confidential material. Be mindful of sharing identifiable information without consent. Email containing personal first-hand experiences with a particular product, procedure or health care entity is allowed so long as it represents the opinion of the individual writing the email message.
- Use Clear Subject Lines
Help others navigate discussions easily by using specific informative subject headers.
- Be Constructive & Supportive
Share ideas, ask questions, and offer help when you can. This is a collaborative space for learning and mutual growth.

- Format/Posting Rules
- If a survey-type request is posted on the list, the sender must provide a separate email address for responses.
- In addition, no material should be posted which:
- Promotes a particular MSO member or Optometric practice. However, it is not a violation of the listserv rules for a member to recommend a health care provider or other professional to another member who first requests such recommendation. Any such recommendation shall disclose the relationship, if any, between the referring optometrist and the person or entity being recommended.
- Could be construed as promoting Optometrists to join or avoid joining a healthcare entity or eye care carve-out.
- Disparages or slanders another profession, company, institution or
- Contains inappropriate information of a personal nature other than an individual’s name, address, practice name, telephone number and email
- Posted on behalf of an individual who is not an MSO member unless prior approval is obtained from MSO. Approval should be requested through the MSO Listserv Administrator.
- Forwarding messages from the MSO Listserv to non-members and/or any other third party is prohibited.
- Procedure for Handling Complaints
Members should forward complaints of inappropriate list use to the List Administrator. Please send by email attaching a copy of the offending communication. Please DO NOT send complaints to the listserv by choosing the reply function.
The List Administrator shall have authority to issue a warning for an inappropriate listserv message. In the event the List Administrator, in concurrence with the MSO President, believes a member has violated any of the rules, or has ignored a first warning, the List Administrator has the authority to remove the member from the list group effective immediately. Reinstatement will be at the sole discretion of the MSO Board.
